Scripture to Think About: Vengefulness

Do you feel offended or vengeful after someone's actions, comments or attitude towards you? Is there a lot of rage and animosity in your heart when you think of that person and/or their offense? Now ask yourself if you think your response to the dispute is Christ-like or even healthy. Here are some helpful verses to fight off the malice and seek the higher road:

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:18)

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it written "vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." (Romans 12:19)

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. (James 1:19-20)

A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back. (Proverbs 29:11)

Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:31-32)
